Reports of shots fired off Hammer Lane in Stockton
THIS IS KCRA THREE NEWS AT FIVE. A MOTHER FOUND DEAD IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY. HOW AN INVESTIGATION UNFOLDED THAT LED TO POLICE TAKING HER SON INTO CUSTODY. VOTING TO GO ON STRIKE. THE AIRLINE THAT NOW HAS ITS FLIGHT ATTENDANTS THREATENING TO HIT THE PICKET. THE STABILITY OF CALIFORNIA’S TALLEST BRIDGE. HOW? ENGINEERS ARE GETTING A CLOSER LOOK AT THE STRUCTURE WITHOUT HAVING TO STOP TRAFFIC. PLUS, WE ARE BARKING AT THE DOOR OF A HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. THE TSA SAYS IT WILL BE BUSY AT AIRPORTS JUST HOW MANY PASSENGERS IT EXPECTS TO SCREEN COMING UP IN A LIVE REPORT. GOOD MORNING. IT IS 501. I’M DEIRDRE FITZPATRICK AND I’M TEO TORRES. IT COULD BE ANOTHER HOT ONE. COULD BE A HOT A LABOR DAY WEEKEND, IN FACT. LET’S GO TO METEOROLOGIST DIRK VERDOORN. CAUSE TODAY IS A WEATHER IMPACT DAY. YEAH. WE’RE LOOKING AT CONDITIONS WHERE SOME AREAS ARE GOING TO BE IMPACTED BY THE HEAT. WHILE OTHER AREAS ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT COOLER THAN THEY WERE YESTERDAY. SO IT’S KIND OF AN INTERESTING SCENARIO WITH THE MARINE LAYER HAS BEEN BUILDING ALONG THE CALIFORNIA COAST. AND THAT’S HELPING TO REALLY COOL THINGS OFF IN COASTAL AREAS THROUGH THE BAY AREA AND EVEN ON INTO THE DELTA. AND SO IF YOU’RE IN AN AREA WHERE YOU’RE FEELING THE DELTA BREEZE, YOU ACTUALLY COULD BE A LITTLE BIT COOLER THAN WE WERE YESTERDAY. SO STRONGER DELTA BREEZE IS GOING TO BE WITH US. WE ARE GOING TO BE FLIRTING WITH TRIPLE DIGITS IN SOME AREAS. AGAIN, AS YOU GET AWAY FROM THE INFLUENCE OF THE DELTA BREEZE, TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE HEATING UP AND THEN THE WEEKEND WE HAVE COOLER CHANGES FOR EVERYBODY. AS A WEATHER SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO PASS BY ACROSS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. SO TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW ARE IN THE UPPER 50S TO LOWER 60S IN FAIRFIELD AND SACRAMENTO, LOW 60S IN STOCKTON. THEY’RE 61 DEGREES, 66 DEGREES IN MODESTO, 64 IN YUBA CITY IN THE 70S THROUGH THE FOOTHILLS AND 40S CURRENTLY FOR TRUCKEE LAKE TAHOE. SO TEMPERATURES ARE DOWN. WE’RE DOWN A DEGREE IN SACRAMENTO AND STOCKTON, BUT WE’RE DOWN 12 DEGREES IN FAIRFIELD. SO MUCH COOLER THIS MORNING. THANKS TO THE MARINE LAYER. IT’S GETTING FAIRLY THICK. IT’S ABOUT 2000FT THICK, WHICH IS A GOOD NUMBER BECAUSE THAT MEANS THAT WE HAVE THOSE CLOUDS PENETRATING NOT ONLY THROUGH THE BAY AREA, BUT EVEN INTO PORTIONS OF THE DELTA. THERE, AT LEAST ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE DELTA, WE’RE SEEING SOME OF THAT LOW CLOUD COVER MOVE IN A WINDS 23MPH. THAT’S THE DELTA BREEZE HELPING TO PUMP IN THAT COOLER AIR. SO IF AGAIN, YOU’RE FEELING THE INFLUENCE OF THAT, YOUR TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE RUNNING A LITTLE BIT COOLER. 12 HOUR FORECAST SHOWS TEMPERATURES STILL WARMING UP. WE’RE GOING TO BE HEATING INTO THE UPPER 90S AROUND 100 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON. THAT’S A QUICK LOOK AT YOUR WEATHER. NOW LET’S CHECK OUT WHAT’S GOING ON WITH THE ROADWAYS THIS MORNING WITH BRIAN HICKEY. THANK YOU DIRK AND GOOD MORNING EVERYONE. WE’RE TAKING A LOOK AT I-5 RIGHT NOW. THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AT RICHARDS BOULEVARD. FOR THOSE OF YOU HEADING OUT ACROSS THE AMERICAN RIVER THERE COMING INTO DOWNTOWN. NO PROBLEMS ON THAT SOUTHBOUND SIDE AND NORTHBOUND OUT OF ELK GROVE. NOT SEEING ANY DELAYS ON I-5 AND 99. ALL CLEAR. ALSO HEADING OUT ONTO THE CAUSEWAY BETWEEN WEST SACRAMENTO AND DAVIS. NO ISSUES TO REPORT HERE. AND 80 FROM ROSEVILLE 50 OUT OF FOLSOM. ALSO CLEAR THROUGH STOCKTON. YOU’RE LOOKING GOOD THIS MORNING WITH NO PROBLEMS ON THE CROSSTOWN FREEWAY FOUR AND 12. LOOKING GOOD. AND THROUGH THE TRACY TRIANGLE. JUST SOME MINOR DELAYS THERE. AT THE TOP OF THE TRIANGLE HERE IN SACRAMENTO, WE’RE LOOKING AT NINE MINUTES FROM 65 DOWN TO THE SPLIT 15 MINUTE RIDE OUT OF FOLSOM TO 99 NORTHBOUND 99. NINE MINUTES OUT OF ELK GROVE AND I-5. A TEN MINUTE RIDE BACK TO YOU GUYS. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. SO MUCH. IT IS 503 NOW, AND IT’S GOING TO BE VERY BUSY WITH THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND COMING UP. WE’VE GOT LABOR DAY HOLIDAY KICKING OFF A LOT OF TRAVEL FOR THE ROADS AND THE SKY. TRIPLE A FORECAST TO BE A RECORD BREAKING TRAVEL PERIOD. LET’S GO TO MELANIE WINGO, LIVE OUTSIDE SAC INTERNATIONAL WITH MORE ON HOW THE TSA IS PREPARING FOR THE AIRPORT RUSH AND THE TSA SAYS IT WILL BE A BUSY HOLIDAY WEEKEND. IT’S BUSY RIGHT NOW HERE AT SACRAMENTO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, AS IT USUALLY IS AT THIS TIME OF DAY. AS THE EARLY FLIGHTS ARE ABOUT TO GET OFF THE GROUND. BUT THE TSA IS PREPPING FOR EVEN BIGGER CROWDS AS WE HEAD INTO THE LABOR DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND. SO WE WANT TO SHOW YOU HOW THINGS LOOK INSIDE TERMINAL A THIS MORNING DURING THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND, THE TSA ANNOUNCING IT’S PREPARED TO SCREEN MORE THAN 17 MILLION PEOPLE ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THOSE MILLIONS OF TRAVELERS WILL PASS THROUGH AIRPORTS BETWEEN TODAY AND WEDNESDAY OF NEXT WEEK, THE AGENCY PREDICTING THIS WILL BE THE BUSIEST LABOR DAY TRAVEL PERIOD ON RECORD. AND BETWEEN TODAY AND WEDNESDAY OF NEXT. WEEK, THE TSA PROJECTING THAT TOMORROW, AUGUST 30TH, WILL BE THE PEAK TRAVEL DAY OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND, WHEN TSA SCREENERS EXPECT TO. CHECK 2.86 MILLION PEOPLE ALONE. NOW, THE TSA DOES SAY IT IS STAFFED TO MEET THE WAIT TIME DEMANDS THAT IT SETS OUT FOR TRAVELERS. THEY SAY IF YOU HAVE TSA PRE-CHECK, YOU CAN EXPECT TO WAIT ABOUT TEN MINUTES OR UNDER IN THOSE PRECHECK LANES. OR IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE TSA PRECHECK, THEY SAY THAT’S OKAY TOO. YOU’LL WAIT ABOUT 30 MINUTES OR UNDER FOR STANDARD SCREENING LANES. REPORTING LIVE IN SACRAMENTO INTERNATIONAL MELANIE WINGO KCRA THREE NEWS. ALL RIGHT MELANIE, THANK YOU. AND FOR MORE IDEAS ON HOW TO MAKE YOUR AIR TRAVEL RUN MORE SMOOTHLY, VISIT THE WEBSITE. ON YOUR SCREEN. IT IS TSA.GOV/TRAVEL. AND KEEP IN MIND IF YOU’RE GOING TO BE TRAVELING BY ROAD TOMORROW, CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL IS BEGINNING ITS MAXIMUM ENFORCEMENT FOR THE LABOR DAY HOLIDAY. CHP IS GOING TO HAVE EXTRA OFFICERS OUT LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE SPEEDING AND NOT WEARING A SEATBELT. THE MAXIMUM ENFORCEMENT PERIOD WILL START AT 6 P.M. FRIDAY, AND IT WILL GO UNTIL MONDAY NIGHT. NOW, LAST YEAR, OFFICERS MADE MORE THAN 1000 ARRESTS FOR PEOPLE DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE. YOU CAN ALSO AVOID THE ROADWAY RUSH BY PLANNING OUT YOUR TRAVEL TIMES. TRIPLE A SAYS THAT BETWEEN 1 P.M. AND 7:30 P.M. TODAY, AND BETWEEN TWO AND SIX TOMORROW WILL BE THE WORST TIMES TO BE ON THE ROADS THAT FLIPS. THEN ON SATURDAY, YOU WANT TO AVOID DRIVING BETWEEN 8 AND 11 A.M. AND THEN ON MONDAY IT WILL BE SLOW GOING PRETTY MUCH ALL DAY LONG FROM 11 A.M. TO 8 P.M. ALL RIGHT, NOW, OFFICIALS ARE SEARCHING FOR A MISSING SACRAMENTO WOMAN, 24 YEAR OLD ESMERALDA MARIE PINEDA WAS LAST SEEN MONDAY MORNING AT A MINING CAMP NEAR THE MIDDLE FORK OF THE YUBA RIVER AND SWEETLAND CREEK IN NEVADA. CITY OFFICIALS BELIEVE SHE MAY BE TRYING TO MAKE HER WAY TO SACRAMENTO. SHE IS CONSIDERED AT RISK BECAUSE OF HER PERSONAL HISTORY AND THE TERRAIN. SHE WAS LAST SEEN IN AN HOURS LONG SEARCH FOR A SACRAMENTO COUNTY MAN ENDED WITH HIM IN CUSTODY AFTER HIS MOTHER WAS DISCOVERED DEAD EARLIER IN THE DAY. THIS ALL STARTED AFTER THE WOMAN WAS FOUND OUTSIDE OF A HOME ON ALTA MESA AND ARNAUD ROADS. THIS IS A RURAL AREA BETWEEN THE COMMUNITIES OF WILTON AND GALT, SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES BEGAN LOOKING FOR THAT WOMAN’S SON AFTER A WORKER FOUND THE WOMAN UNRESPONSIVE, WITH BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA TO THE HEAD AND FACE. DEPUTIES SPENT MORE THAN SIX HOURS SEARCHING FOR THAT MAN. VIDEO HERE CAPTURED OF WHEN HE WAS FINALLY TAKEN INTO CUSTODY, DEPUTIES SAID THEY BELIEVED HE COULD BE INVOLVED IN HER DEATH, SAYING THE CRIME IS UNUSUAL FOR THIS AREA. YOU LOOK AROUND, IT’S A PRETTY QUIET, PEACEFUL AREA. LARGE PROPERTIES, LARGE LOTS. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING, NOT SOME HIGH CRIME AREA OR ANYTHING OF THAT NATURE. EXCLUSIVE VIDEO FROM LIVECOPTER3 SHOWING YOU JUST HOW RIGOROUS THE SEARCH WAS. YOU COULD SEE A SWAT TEAM THERE BREACHING A WHITE RV TRAILER ON THE PROPERTY. WE ALSO HAVE VIDEO OF THE SWAT TEAM SEARCHING A LARGE CORNFIELD THAT HAD MULTIPLE STRUCTURES ON IT. THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE WOMAN’S DEATH IS ONGOING. SO FAR. WE KNOW THAT MAN IS 29 YEARS OLD. DEPUTIES ARE WORKING TO FIGURE OUT FOR SURE IF HE IS A SUSPECT. IT IS 507 NOW. HAPPENING TODAY. THE STOCKTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS GOING TO LAUNCH AN APP TO HELP TACKLE RETAIL THEFT. THE APP IS CALLED FOR THE START PROGRAM OR STOCKTON TAKES ACTION AGAINST RETAIL THEFT. OFFICIALS SAY THAT IT’S GOING TO BE A VITAL TOOL FOR BUSINESSES AND RESIDENTS TO REPORT INCIDENTS OF THE THEFT. SO TO CELEBRATE THIS, THERE’S GOING TO BE A LUNCH HELD AT THE GREAT WOLF LODGE IN MANTECA, AND THE CHAMBER IS ALSO GOING TO ROLL OUT THE NEW SMALL BUSINESS CAMERA GRANT PROGRAM THAT WILL PROVIDE BUSINESSES IN THE AREA SOME GRANTS SO THAT THEY CAN PUT CAMERAS IN TO FURTHER DETER AND THEN DOCUMENT RETAIL THEFT. DETAILS ON HOW TO APPLY WILL BE PRESENTED DURING THAT LUNCH. WE’RE GETTING A RARE LOOK NOW INTO WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE SURE OUR BRIDGES ARE SAFE TO CROSS. NEW INSPECTIONS ARE NOW UNDERWAY ON PLACER COUNTY’S FORESTHILL BRIDGE. IT IS UNDERGOING WHAT’S CALLED ULTRASONIC TESTING AS PART OF A NATIONWIDE EFFORT TO LOOK AT BRIDGES OF SIMILAR CONSTRUCTION CREWS WORK HIGH ABOVE THE NORTH FORK OF THE AMERICAN RIVER. ENGINEERS USE SPECIAL TRUCKS TO BRING THEM OVER THE SIDE OF THE ROUGHLY HALF MILE BRIDGE. THEY SAY A CHECK WELD POINTS ON WHAT’S CALLED T ONE STEELE, WHICH WAS USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF WHAT IS CALIFORNIA’S TALLEST BRIDGE. THE REASON WHY WE’RE DOING THE TESTING IS BECAUSE THERE ARE THINGS THAT YOU CAN’T SEE WITH THE NAKED EYE. THAT’S WHY IT’S ULTRASONIC TESTING. WE WANT TO GET IN THERE WITH A HIGHER LEVEL OF TECHNOLOGY AND MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS SAFE. PLACER COUNTY IS STRESSING THE BRIDGE IS SAFE AND IT WILL REMAIN OPEN TO TRAFFIC. IT IS 509 RIGHT NOW AS WE GET A CHECK ON KCRA 3 WEATHER AND TRAFFIC EVERY TEN MINUTES. A LOT OF PEOPLE LOOKING AHEAD TO THE WEEKEND TRYING TO DO ONE LAST SUMMER GETAWAY. YEAH, THIS IS GOING TO BE A REALLY NICE WEEKEND FOR THAT. AND NOW TEMPERATURES COULD BE A LITTLE WARM TO START OFF THE WEEKEND, BUT WE’RE GOING TO SEE THOSE TEMPERATURES EASE UP AS WE GO THROUGH SUNDAY AND MONDAY. BUT TODAY IT’S AN INTERESTING DAY AS WE HAVE THE DELTA BREEZE. WE HAVE THE MARINE LAYER. AND THAT’S HELPING TO KEEP TEMPERATURES NICE AND COMFORTABLE AND COOL THIS MORNING. WE’RE IN THE LOW 60S IN SACRAMENTO STOCKTON MODESTO 66 DEGREES IN LAKE TAHOE. CURRENTLY 42 DEGREES. THERE’S THAT BREEZE IN FAIRFIELD AT 23MPH. SO IT’S A STRONGER ONSHORE BREEZE THIS MORNING THAN WHAT WE EXPERIENCED YESTERDAY MORNING. AND THE MARINE LAYER IS A LOT THICKER. IN FACT, THE MARINE LAYER IS UP AROUND 2000FT THICK. AND SO THAT’S GOING TO HELP TO KEEP THAT ONSHORE BREEZE WITH US AS WE GO FROM THE MORNING ON INTO THE AFTERNOON. IN FACT, IT SHOULD PICK UP A LITTLE BIT AS WE GET INTO THE AFTERNOON. YOU CAN SEE THE WIND TIMELINE FOR FAIRFIELD. BUT THE BIG QUESTION IS, IS JUST HOW FAR INLAND IS THAT BREEZE GOING TO GO? WHO’S GOING TO FEEL THE IMPACT OF THAT? AND SO THE CLOSER YOU ARE TO SOLANO COUNTY AND CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, THEN THE COOLER YOUR TEMPERATURES WILL BE, THE FARTHER AWAY YOU ARE, THE LESS LIKELY YOU’RE GOING TO FEEL THE INFLUENCE OF IT. BUT THE SATELLITE VIEW RIGHT NOW SHOWS CLEAR SKIES ACROSS THE AREA. AND THAT’S BECAUSE HIGH PRESSURE IS IN PLACE. SO EVEN THOUGH WE DO HAVE THE COOLING EFFECTS OF THE DELTA BREEZE, HIGH PRESSURE IS GOING TO STILL BRING TEMPERATURES INTO THE MID TO LOW 80S AROUND TRUCKEE AND LAKE TAHOE AND UPPER 80S IN PLACES LIKE ARNOLD AND POLLOCK PINES. PLACERVILLE 91 DEGREES 93, IN JACKSON, ANGELS CAMP 94 DEGREES SONORA 95 DEGREES TODAY. SO WE STILL HAVE THAT HEAT INTO THE FOOTHILLS. CONCORD 9168, THOUGH IN SAN FRANCISCO AND 83 IN NAPA. SO SOME NICE WEATHER THERE. TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S IN STOCKTON AND MANTECA COULD SEE UP TO AROUND 100 DEGREES IN TURLOCK AS YOU GET AGAIN FARTHER SOUTH, WE’RE LOOKING AT YUBA CITY. COULD SEE UP AROUND 100 DEGREES 98, IN WOODLAND, THOUGH 97 IN DAVIS AND 96 IN VACAVILLE. ELK GROVE 98 DEGREES. SO A MIX OF TEMPERATURES THERE. BUT LET’S TURN OUR ATTENTION NOW TO WHAT’S GOING ON WITH THE ROADWAYS THIS MORNING. FOR THAT WE HAVE BRIAN HICKEY AND THAT’S PRETTY EASY ASSIGNMENT HERE. WE’VE GOT PRETTY QUIET ROADS ACROSS THE SACRAMENTO AREA. YOU CAN SEE UNDER INTERSTATE 80 RIGHT NOW COMING IN FROM ROSEVILLE EASY RIDE THERE AND HIGHWAY 50 OUT OF FOLSOM, ALL IN THE GREEN. 5.99 FOR ELK GROVE. NO PROBLEMS. AND ACROSS THE CAUSEWAY, WE’RE LOOKING GOOD THERE BETWEEN DAVIS AND WEST SACRAMENTO THROUGH STOCKTON. YOU CAN SEE HERE NO INCIDENTS, NO RED ON THE MAP, NOT EVEN ANY YELLOWS. LOOKING GOOD THERE. A LITTLE BIT OF SLOWING ON. 132 AND THEN OF COURSE 205 AS YOU MAKE YOUR WAY ON TO THE ALTAMONT PASS AT 580, THE NORMAL DELAYS THERE 27 MINUTE RIDE FROM I-5 TO 580 WESTBOUND, 580 OVER THE ALTAMONT PASS. WE’RE LOOKING AT 28 MINUTES THERE, 99 FOR MODESTO TO MANTECA, 12 MINUTES AND A SIX MINUTE RIDE ON WESTBOUND, 120 FROM 99 TO I-5 HERE IN SACRAMENTO, TEN MINUTES OUT OF ROSEVILLE, 15 MINUTES OUT OF FOLSOM, NINE MINUTES OUT OF ELK GROVE ON 99 AND TEN MINUTES ON I-5. BACK TO YOU. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. IT’S 511 NOW. NEXT. KICKING OFF A BATTLE GROUND BLITZ AS THE RACE FOR THE WHITE HOUSE EDGES CLOSER TO ELECTION DAY. HOW THE TWO PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNS ARE NOW FOCUSING THEIR EFFORTS. AND A LISTERIA OUTBREAK IS TIED TO DELI MEAT. WE’LL TELL YOU HOW SOME PEOPLE ARE NOW TRYING TO HOLD A COUNTY ACCOUNT COMPANY ACC
